“Into Yourself-Fall, takes us on a journey through the human body, experiencing the sensation of falling into yourself via this immersive medium. Vertigo as descent inward.”
We wanted to ensure the essence and themes of Kapoor’s body of work were translated into virtual reality. Biomorphic forms, evocations of the void, dualities and abstractions were all preoccupations at the heart of the piece, from concept to realisation.
The project was replete with exploration and discovery. Being his first venture into VR, it was important to both show and allow Kapoor to realise the possibilities of the medium so that he could unleash his full creative force over the piece.
We opted for using Houdini’s powerful procedural pipeline to generate artwork and abstract geometry that were a true reflection of Kapoor’s style. This unique and flexible workflow of proceduralism also allowed us to iterate quickly and efficiently to account for feedback from the artist as well as straightforward integration into Unity.
The piece was first shown at the Nobel Prize 2017 celebrations in Gothenburg, Sweden.
